To Reconnect with Your Inner Child, You Might Need to Heal Some Old Wounds

We’ve all heard of our inner child, that version of ourselves that is innocent, carefree, and sees the world with boundless joy, optimism, and hope for the future.

But, much like a child, the inner child within all of us struggles to feel loved, accepted, and safe. Those feelings come from deep wounds suffered over many years.

When a physical wound is ignored for years, it forms a scar on your body. Similarly, when internal wounds are neglected, they become a part of your energetic field.

To heal these wounds, you need to talk to that inner child. Acknowledge its presence and love it, instead of trying to bully it. If you bully this inner child, you deprive yourself of the abundant creativity made possible through childlike innocence and curiosity.

In this article, we’ll show you how to begin healing your inner child’s wounds.

Acknowledge the Scars of Your Past

As a child, perhaps you were given certain restrictions on your passions by parents, teachers, or peers. You might have been told that you weren’t good at playing the piano, you couldn’t dance, or weren’t smart enough for science or mathematics.

Unfortunately, children can take even one comment and code themselves in an effort to fit in. If you were told you weren’t good at something, to keep from feeling the pain of that criticism, you likely programmed yourself to think you couldn’t do those activities.

That behavior starts to dim the lights of creativity from a very young age. Eventually, the light gets so dim, you become completely disconnected from that passion.

We’re going to bring that light back.

First, transform any of the shame from your childhood wounds into gratitude. By acknowledging and being thankful for those thoughts, you can begin healing.

New energies will form within your mindset that create new ideas from love, purpose, and passion. You will be reconnecting to that inner child who desperately wants to unleash creativity and play with their world. If you deny that an inner child exists within you, passion and purpose will remain disconnected from your soul.

Instead, tell yourself: I see my childhood wounds and I heal them with ease.

Begin to Transform Your Thoughts

Think about anything that’s holding you back from having a healthy relationship with your parents and write it down somewhere. Now, forgive yourself and forgive them for any past transgressions, so your relationship can begin to heal. This should allow you to see your parents as friends, rather than superiors or anything else.

From there, you can become the parents of your inner child. Whenever a wound such as anger or sadness arises, go inside to show love and support for your inner child. Tell your inner child that it’s okay to feel challenging emotions and you’re here for support.

Maintain awareness of your inner child without criticism or judgment. Notice the beautiful energy and creativity that sparks when you reconnect in that way.

Acknowledge Any Physical Pain

In addition to your thoughts, we need to work on the physical impact of old wounds.

Identify which area of your body inhabits your childhood wounds. One could be in your arm; another could be in your kidneys; some may come from your head and neck area.

Think deeply and the physical location of these emotional wounds should surface.

Ask yourself, “Where is this sadness coming from?”

Visualize a beautiful golden light entering the identified part of your body that is the source of your childhood wounds. Breathe love into that specific area and expel all the negative energy that needs to be released. Repeat this with other wounded areas.

To Heal Faster, Keep Questioning

Pay attention to how the childhood wounds are triggered during your day, and make a note of how they disconnect you further from your passion.

To heal those wounds even faster, keep questioning how they trigger those emotions within you. Ask yourself, “What do I need to do to transform this wound into a higher vibration, where I can reconnect with the passion that comes from my inner child?”
